Next New

A new type of "new media" would be an app related to virtual worlds. This app would allowed the virtual world to connect with the actual world. The virtual world would received up-to-date news, weather, traffic, etc. The user is basically creating a virtual world base on their real life. The user can incorporate real-life scenarios into the virtual world. The virtual world can help the user deal with real-life scenarios before they actually encounter it. As a result, the user can handle different scenarios with different solutions.

  1. This is both a school and scary thought. I can totally see new businesses cropping up that utilize the virtual world to train people for the real one, such as giving someone a ton of money in the virtual world and seeing how they spend it to observe spending habits people have better. Or maybe a whole new level of education where you teach people how to buy a house by doing it virtually first.

  2. I agree with Roderick, this can be very practical and useful but at the same time, very very scary. Obviously you want to use this type of media to simulate practical scenarios to maybe help predict environmental disasters and what not. However if this kind of new media can be used to do other things that aren't necessarily beneficial. I think the users of this new media would have to be limited, probably give the government access to it. But if this gets into the hands of just any consumer i can see big problems with it. Very interesting idea though!
